Welcome to the start of this exciting 2016/2017 school year! We hope that you had a wonderful, adventurous, yet relaxing summer break.
The beginning of a new school year provides the opportunity for new beginnings and to put one’s best self forward. Setting academic, extra-curricular, and social goals in the areas of personal development, leadership, empowerment, and environmental awareness are essential keys to success.
At our welcome back assembly this morning, we introduced our school wide theme for this year – COMMUNITY and POSITIVITY. We spoke to the students about what community means to them, what makes our Glenburnie community so special and unique, and how important it is to be supportive of each other and to be a positive and contributing member our school.
“We rise by lifting others.” ~ Robert Ingersoll
At Glenburnie School, we provide learning and leadership opportunities for students of all ages, and help to instill skills which will last a lifetime. Students will continue to learn how to lead and to grow as individuals, to work collaboratively with their peers, and to take pride in their accomplishments, and in their school. I feel strongly that it is our role as parents and educators to provide students with the best possible tools and skills for lifelong learning and success.
Teachers have been very busy incorporating curriculum updates and lessons for your children. This year, we are pleased to announce that STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) will be incorporated into our inquiry based model for learning. Please be sure to visit our new STEAM labs which are located: Kindergarten wing, Upper Primary wing, and our Science Lab. These exploratory rooms will be used often by each grade level to further engage students in discovery learning; linking the curriculum elements of Social Studies, Science, Math, Arts, and Technology.
At Glenburnie, we believe that strong, direct, and open communication is best. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom and/or rotary teacher(s), or our administrative staff, if you have questions, need clarification on something, or wish to discuss the personal academic/social goals for your child. We are always pleased to meet with you for scheduled appointments or to communicate via email or telephone conference. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me, or schedule a time to meet, if you have any questions or concerns over the course of the year.
On behalf of the entire staff of Glenburnie School, we look forward to working with your children this year, and are honoured to be a part of their lives.
