Principal’s Message November 2015

Many amazing events continue to take place at Glenburnie School. It gives me great pleasure to recognize our students for their many accomplishments this Fall which include: participation in clubs, electives, varsity sports, bands, choirs, and class projects and classroom debates. Special congratulations to those students who have achieved a special goal, no matter how big or small. Parents are asked to please take a moment to celebrate accomplishments with your child and to create a plan for other areas of interest that he/she may like to explore at Glenburnie School.

I am always so proud of our students and how they interact with others within the community while on school field trips, when hosting guest presentations at our school, and also when competing at sporting events. The feedback we receive about our students is that they stand out in their citizenship, and demonstrate exceptional manners and kindness.

Thank you parents for attending the October goal setting meetings with your child’s homeroom teacher. We hope that you found these meetings to be productive and enlightening. We are greatly anticipating our Hallowe’en festivities which will take place at Glenburnie on Friday, October 30th, commencing with our assembly, followed by thematic activities in the Gym for students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5. The Grade 6-8 students will be sure to enjoy their first dance of the year. Thank you, in advance, to our creative teachers for organizing such a wonderful day for all to enjoy.

Our Remembrance Day assembly will be presented by our Grade 8 students on Wednesday, November 11th beginning at 11:00 a.m. As always, all parents are most welcome to join us as we honour the many brave individuals, past and present, who have made it possible for us to live in freedom. Thank you to all Glenburnie families for your ongoing and invaluable support of our school. At our recent Open House, we were so pleased to hear from many visitors that they were referred to us by current Glenburnie families! We would also like to thank our Intermediate students who were courteous representatives of our school as they toured prospective families throughout our facilities. On Tuesday, October 27th, we celebrated the retirement of long time educator, Mr. McDonald. We were pleased to have so many families, past graduates and teachers join us to honour Mr. McDonald. Messages of thanks from alumni, former Glenburnie families and colleagues, and more, were shared. There are hundreds of students whose lives have been impacted by Mr. McDonald, and he will always be remembered fondly at Glenburnie School. We all wish him the very best in his retirement.

The action continues at Glenburnie this month with another full calendar of activities and events which are outlined in this newsletter. Please note that you can also connect with us on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. We look forward to meeting with you at any time to review or re-visit goals that have been set or achieved. The first two months of school have been very rewarding, and I look forward to the months ahead, and all that is in store, with great anticipation.
