Principal’s Message January 2015

We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of long time teacher, Mr. McDonald from our Glenburnie family.  We are most grateful of the tremendous outpouring of condolences, support, love and kindness from our past and current Glenburnie families.  We have not received any details regarding a memorial or a funeral, but when we do, we will pass along all information once received via email, by posting it on our school website and placing it on Glenburnie’s Facebook page.

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”

Henry Adams
Welcome back and Happy New Year to all of our families.  May this year bring you, and your family, great joy, peace and harmony, good health, and prosperity. We thank you for your caring support and partnership in working together with your children.

The New Year is a wonderful time for families to discuss their own family values and how to make a difference in the lives of others. Discussions will set the tone for effective communication throughout the New Year. Families are encouraged to seize the opportunity to celebrate personal achievements and to set individual and family goals.

We were so very proud of our Kindergarten and Primary students as they presented their holiday concert. Keepsake DVDs will be distributed within the next month.

Our 4th annual Sounds of the Season event was a tremendous success. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining musical performances and wish to thank all participants. In addition, it was a pleasure to learn about the many philanthropic endeavours which take place at Glenburnie School, within our local community, and beyond.  We wish to thank Ms. Harvey and Miss Halley and all staff members and parent volunteers who contributed to the success of our productions.

As always, January will be busy at Glenburnie! Each class will explore new units of study using a variety of methods to further develop each students’ 21st Century Skills to the highest level through: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Creativity and Innovation, Collaboration and Leadership, Cross- Curricular Understanding, Communication, Digital Literacy, Cultural, Global and Environmental Awareness and Personal Management of one’s learning.  We are pleased to have two special thematic days this month: Me to We Day and STEM /Parent Day.

We continue to enjoy working with you, and your children, and invite you to schedule an appointment any time to meet with your child’s homeroom/rotary teachers, or myself, to discuss your child’s needs and/or educational programme for the remainder of this year and/or planning for their next academic 2016-2017 year.

Warmest regards,
Mrs. Melissa Meevis
