Principal’s January Message, 2017

I would like to extend a warm welcome back and Happy New Year to all families.  May this year bring you, and your family, great joy, peace and harmony, good health, and prosperity.  We thank you for your caring support and partnership in working together with your children.

The New Year is a wonderful time for families to discuss their own family values and how to make a difference in the lives of others. Discussions will set the tone for effective communication throughout the New Year. Families are encouraged to seize the opportunity to celebrate personal achievements and to set individual and family goals.

We were so very proud of our Kindergarten and Primary students as they presented their holiday concert. Our 5th annual Sounds of the Season event was a tremendous success! We thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining musical performances and wish to thank all participants. In addition, it was a pleasure to share with you the many philanthropic endeavours which take place at Glenburnie School, within our local community, and beyond.  We wish to thank our dedicated staff members and parent volunteers who contributed to the success of our productions.

As always, January will be busy at Glenburnie! Each class will explore new units of study using a variety of methods to further develop each students’ 21st Century Skills to the highest level through: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Creativity and Innovation, Collaboration and Leadership, Cross- Curricular Understanding, Communication, Digital Literacy, Cultural, Global and Environmental Awareness and Personal Management of one’s learning.

We continue to enjoy working with you, and your children.  We invite you to schedule an appointment any time to meet with your child’s homeroom/rotary teachers, or myself, to discuss your child’s needs and/or educational programme for the remainder of this year and/or planning for their next academic 2017-2018 school year.

“Make each day your masterpiece! Live the story you want to tell the world.”

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to an exciting New Year, 2017!

As the New Year unfolds, with all of its opportunities and gifts, it is important to take time for reflection.  The word ‘gratitude’ comes to mind; to be grateful for all the blessings in our lives.  Research tells us that the regular expression of ‘gratitude’ is the path to happiness.  I am truly grateful for such dedicated, passionate staff members who work so diligently at Glenburnie to ensure best learning outcomes for our students.  We are grateful for our wonderful parents who support our educational vision for their children.  We are grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing children and to provide a strong foundation of concepts and skills for their future successes.

We are pleased to report that we have been very busy throughout the first semester offering tours and assessments for new families interested in joining us for the September 2017-18 academic year. We welcome all new families who have just joined Glenburnie, as we continue with our studies, anticipate upcoming school trips, and guest visitors, continue with our varsity sports programmes, elective sessions, and the preparations for our spring theatrical production of Peter Pan.

In the past, Glenburnie has been honoured to welcome children from many countries around the world, which has also further enriched the lives of our students.  During the Chinese New Year/Winter Vacation, we have the distinguished opportunity to welcome a group of students on a short-term basis, whose parents are seeking a brief Canadian ‘immersion’ school experience for their children.  We are excited to provide this mutual learning opportunity to our students as they develop these new relationships.  We welcome Mrs. Kerri Bejaoui to our staff who will be overseeing the transition of these students and offering ESL support.

On behalf of myself and the staff, we wish our families every joy, happiness, and success in 2017.

Warmest Regards,

Mrs. Linda Sweet
