“I wanted to send a quick email with regards to my daughter’s Pre-Kindergarten teacher. We are happy that our daughter has developed both on an academic and emotional level this year. She just loves going to school each day to see her friends but in particular, to see her teacher. When asked who loves her, her teacher always makes the list! I just wanted to let you know that we are very appreciative of all of the care, effort, and kindness that the teacher has shown our daughter.”
Outreach Initiatives
Project Green School
On January 31st, 2008, Glenburnie launched Project Green, a curriculum initiative that teaches students about conservation and protecting wetlands. We entered into a partnership with the Town of Oakville, Conservation Halton, and Ducks Unlimited Canada. This partnership has provided students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 with hands-on lessons and experiences about the environment. Glenburnie students have adopted a trail and storm water management pond in Joshua Creek Marsh with the Town of Oakville’s Adopt-A-Trail program. We became a ‘Marsh School’ with Ducks Unlimited Canada, and we learned about the effects of run-off through Conservation Halton.
The Oakville Spelling Bee of Canada
This April, Glenburnie School is again hosting the Oakville Spelling Bee of Canada. A number of our students have been strong competitors in this event.
Performing Arts Talent Contest
Each November, Glenburnie School presents the annual Performing Arts Talent Contest, where instrumentalists, vocalists, dancers, and a variety of performers from the local community, from diverse genres and backgrounds, compete. The focus of this event is on the complete artist, rather than simply technical mastery. Prominent professionals in their fields judge each performance on both “Technical Merit” and “Artistic Impression”. Feedback from participants, judges, and parents each year, is that our dynamic format and unique scoring system really helps the personality and artistry of the young artists to shine through.
