Objectives

The objectives of Glenburnie School are founded on the core philosophy that each student is an individual with unique learning capabilities. In keeping with this philosophy, we individualize our programme to the optimum extent possible. Our objectives are:

1.      To ensure that each student develops intellectual competence - a child who has intellectual competence is one who can think logically, critically, and creatively.

2.      To guarantee that the process of learning is evident in all aspects of student activity. While the product must be neatly completed and be well organized, the process must also play a significant part in meeting specific objectives for all study areas. We realize that we must present factual material which is a pre-requisite to the thinking process.

3.      To apply a continuum of basic skills in Language Arts, Mathematics, and Technology, in order to provide a continuous learning environment that integrates, wherever possible, other academic subjects.

4.      To make effective use of the community, field trips, and outside personnel, to enrich the curriculum and provide a background of meaningful experiences for every student.

5.      To maintain close communication among parents, the school, and the community.

6.      To be aware of individual learning styles and to ensure that lessons suit student needs.

7.      To support professional development for teachers as a high priority and encourage teachers to take advantage of conferences, educational literature, and professional in-school exchanges.

8.      To encourage teachers to incorporate recent developments in educational research into their programming, in keeping with our school objectives.

9.      To build a working environment for students and teachers that is supportive, stimulating, and productive.
