Since graduating from Glenburnie in 2000,
Caitlyn MacMaster has continued to be
heavily involved in school and community
activities. She earned the Governor General’s
Bronze Medal for Oakville Trafalgar High
School in 2004, and the University Medal in
Environmental Sciences from Dalhousie
University in 2008.
Caitlyn’s studies have taken her around the
world. Her enjoyment of Glenburnie’s Grade
Eight trip to the Huntsman Marine Science
Centre in St. Andrew’s, New Brunswick led her
to pursue further experiences in Marine Biology
and Oceanography. In the summer of 2003,
she spent three weeks in “Beautiful British
Columbia” learning about Marine and
Environmental Sciences and became SCUBA
certified. Three years later, as a research
assistant to a professor of Oceanography at
Dalhousie University, she spent three weeks
on a ship in the South China Sea and the
Philippines doing palaeo-climate research on
ocean sediment cores.
This past summer, Caitlyn travelled around
Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic to delve
into the impact of Global Climate Change on
the region, as part of an International Polar
Year project. Caitlyn is now employed as a
wind energy consultant in Waterdown, Ontario,
where her adventures continue!
